About Franktown

Originally called “Frank’s Town” after James Frank Gardner in 1859, today’s Franktown will give you a glimpse into the past. You can visit Pikes Peak Grange #163, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Rock Ridge Ranch Barn, the Evans Homestead Rural Historic Landscape or the Franktown Cave where evidence of prehistoric people has been found. Although it appears uneventful, much has happened in this area in the last several thousand years.

Government Services

As an unincorporated community, Franktown does not have it’s own local government, so resources primarily come from Douglas County government services with the exception of their own Fire Protection District. Students in this area attend Double County Re 1 School District, which includes Franktown Elementary School.

Businesses and Social Life in Franktown

Franktown is a close-knit, rural community, but it’s often a common tourist attraction due to the beautiful Castlewood Canyon State Park. The area includes deep canyons great for hiking, rock climbing and sightseeing. Outside of this tourist attraction and the other historical sites, Franktown has a couple of local businesses, but with a short drive to Parker and Castle Rock, you’ll find everything you need.
